Walk in the Spirit

W. Work Orderliness
Structure vs. Flexilibility: An orderly routine is essential but should not be inflexible.
A. Availability
Teach children early, to do household tasks and to be responsible for their own things - and to be helpful to you and their siblings: the family.
L. Love
Love must be unconditional and non-manipulative. Respect for one another is an essential component of love.
K. Kindness
Kindness needs to be taught, recognized and commended. There is a kind way to correct bad behavior without inviting reaction and/or dishonesty. Kindness needs to be taught by example: Be accountable to your children also.
I. Initiative
Initiative needs to be encouraged; it is very easy to stifle initiative.
N. Nonconformity
It is important for children to be comfortable with their individuality. If children are forced to conform early in life, they will later rebel.
T. Trustworthiness
Trustworthiness is a 2-way street and needs to be taught by your example and accountability. Scheduling your activities and involving your children in the schedule planning. However it is also crucial to teach them to respect your authority. Dealing with children's insecurities is complex but essential. Lead by example, while maintaining flexibility.
H. Hospitality
Making people feel welcome; greeting them and showing them consideration. Hospitality towards your children may be shown by inviting them to participate in how you schedule your home-schooling: invite their feedback and accommodate them whenever possible and practical.
E. Enthusiasm
Enthusiasm is contagious and often helps in situations which would otherwise be trying.
S. Stewardship
It is important to teach that with liberty and privilege comes responsibility.
P. Peacemaker
I. In Obedience
It is crucial to recognize authority inaugurated by God - and to teach this to your children.
R. Responsibility - Accountability
I. Integrity: moral soundness
T. Truthfulness

Make "Walk in the Spirit," an integral part of your child's training. This is a good way to incorporate Bible into your curriculum. It is important to realize that what you are doing by adopting "Walk in the Spirit" principles as part of your teaching is working on character development, not just correcting bad behavior. You can do this without relinquishing your god-given authority, which your children must recognize and yield to. Dr. Cates talks about how to incorporate these principles into your child's training. Raise your children with your heart.

Note! The "Walk in the Spirit" series is actually concluded on the first DVD in the "Stress" series, where Dr. Cates reviews the synopsis of "Walk in the Spirit," and makes suggestions for implimentation of this training.
