Dr.
Cates was born in Illinois on July 25, 1940. He received a Ph.D.
in 1972 from Loyola University in Chicago, Illinois, where he
majored in curriculum Development. Following the completion of
his formal education, Dr. Cates began a clinic which dealt
primarily with children who had reading and other learning
disabilities. Five years after its inception, the clinic was
chosen from over two hundred similar programs as a model for
comparable clinics throughout the world. The clinic was then
moved to the prestigious Educational Facilities Center in
Chicago.
Two
years later, Dr. Cates answered a call from God to devote his
energies to full-time service in the field of Christian
education. He is currently President of Faith
Christian Ministries. Under this non-profit
organization, his work involves both ministry and education. The
preaching aspect of the ministry involves evangelistic meetings,
family life seminars, and freedom rallies. In the educational
aspect, he helps those who wish to establish Christian schools
and colleges, he provides consultation to schools already
established and works extensively with homeschool families.
Further,
Dr. Cates is the author of "Neurological Impairment:
Important Information for the Special Education Teacher",
and he has written and compiled a pre-school curriculum for
children ages 2 to 6. In the past he has hosted his own radio
program "Strictly For Parents", and he developed the
"U-Fly-It" toy, a toy designed to develop visual-motor
coordination. He also holds membership in the Association for
Supervision and Curriculum Development.
Dr.
Paul Cates cares about kids.
In
fact, he has devoted much of the last 18 years to the pursuit of
excellence in childhood development, education and spiritual
training. Today, Dr. Cates's ministry takes him all over the
world to aid parents in the education of their children - both
through homeschooling and Christian Schools. The main focus of
his work is the educational evaluation of children to determine
an individualized curriculum. The curriculum is designed to meet
the specific needs of the child, and a homeschool or Christian
school schedule to optimize the family or school time and
effort.
Although
a broad spectrum of homeschoolers and Christian schools have
found Dr. Cates's program to be the perfect choice to meet their
needs, he is especially important to those families who have
children with special needs. Because of his background in
special education and the evaluation and teaching of children
with learning disabilities, Dr. Cates has been a welcome answer
to prayer for hundreds of these uniquely challenged families.
His
philosophy is refreshing: God has created each child with
undeveloped gifts and talents to be used to serve Him. In His
infinite wisdom and apparent love of variety, God has also
created each child to be an individual, with a specific learning
style unique to him. It is the job of parents to discover each
child's learning technique, what his gifts are, where his
talents lie and how best to maximize the potential of each of
their children in the years that they have with them so they can
successfully take their place in service to God as responsible
fulfilled adults.
Of
particular note concerning his ministry is the establishment of
Talent Development Programs in Christian Schools. These programs
are designed to meet the needs of students and help them develop
their individual "talents". As an expert in this area,
Dr. Cates oversees and consults in the operation of the
programs. He has, himself, tested hundreds of children and
created special educational services for those children, as well
as offering plans to deal with them. He has set up Talent
Development Programs in several Christian Schools.
Because
of his tremendous contributions to Christian ministry and to the
education of special children, Dr. Cates has been cited in a
number of biographical reference publications in the U.S. and
abroad. These listings include: Outstanding Educators of
America, Who's Who in Education, International Who's Who of
Intellectuals, International Register of Profiles, International
Who's Who in Community Service, Dictionary of International
Biography, Who's Who in Special Education and many more. He and
his wife Isobel have six children: Peter, John, David, Kirk,
Linda, and Ann. He also has four grandchildren.

Cates may be reached through Faith Christian Ministries at 864
